If you ask someone in the printing industry about a brochure, they would assume you mean a single sheet of paper folded in various ways.  To someone outside of the industry a brochure can also be a flyer, catalog, rack card, postcard etc. When we refer to a "brochure" we mean a single sheet of paper, folded.

The most common and inexpensive brochure we offer is 8-1/2 x 11 printed on 100# gloss book with aqueous coating, folded in half or thirds.

Brochures come in four standard sizes, 8-1/2 x 11, 8-1/2 x 14, 11 x 17 and 11 x 25-1/2. An unfolded 8-1/2 x 11 is often used as a flyer, product or sell sheet, or tri-folded for a company brochure. Many companies use an 11x17 brochure, folded in half, as an economical product catalog.
